The first ever game of American-style football to be played on the Cayman Islands. Top international free agents and former NFL players will represent “Team America,” the only professional, player-supported USA national team in the world. By bringing the game to the Cayman Islands, CDFL will add to its established relationships with the North American and European football leagues, both of which support an organization that gives the best free agents in the world the chance to demonstrate their skills to a captive audience. The CDFL created the “Team America Ambassadors” to promote football as an international sport, with the goal of connecting free agent players with professional opportunities in North America and Europe. Top tier football players from the United States – including former NFL, CFL and graduated college players – make up the “Ambassadors” roster. “This game has great support from the Ministries of Tourism and Sports for the Cayman Islands,” remarked George St. Lawrence, Co-Founder of the CDFL and “Team America.” “We are excited to be part of the Cayman Island family and we’re looking forward to interacting with the Caymanian people, players and fans in a positive cultural exchange through football.” The “Cayman Kickoff Classic” game will promote American football in the Cayman Islands, giving Caymanian athletes the chance to play one of America’s most popular and influential sports. In turn, during their stay in Grand Cayman, “Team America” members and coaches will offer training lessons to select local youth during a pre-game clinic at Truman Bodden Stadium, where professionals will teach the rookies how to perfect their spiral pass and tackle techniques. CDFL is thrilled to bring this opportunity to Cayman and its people.
“The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism has been delighted to help facilitate this inaugural American football game,” said Deputy Premier, and Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Moses Kirkconnell. “The chance to bring such a popular sport to a group of excited fans and young players is a great opportunity for Cayman to promote physical fitness and welcome a group of new visitors to our island.”
