GDFL IMPACT CONFERENCE GAME OF THE WEEKTennessee Hurricanes vs.Mississippi Raiders 529 N. Mace, Canton, MS June 4 7:00 pm CDT Favorite: Tennessee Hurricanes -12 Tennessee Hurricanes one of those talented teams that no one seems to notice. The Hurricanes finished 10-0, and earned a trip to their second-consecutive playoff birth in 2010. Add in Kynnis Shelton—one of the nation’s top Receiver—back for his third season with 10 other returning starters, then sprinkle a favorable schedule on top, and Hurricanes could easily find their way into the Top 25 this season of the Gridiron Developmental Football League. Mississippi Raiders also finished 8-2 last season, as a first year organization the Raiders proved in 2010 that they could play tough down the stretch and made a serious run in the playoffs in 2010. While the Raiders have suffered from losing some of their key players, with a new rookie class coming in their doesn’t seem to be any fall off, there’s no indication that Mississippi Raiders won’t be a tough team in 2011. But the Raiders don’t have a player like Kynnis Shelton, and as so often the case for the Hurricanes, he’ll be the difference in this Mid-south Division Showdown-Impact Conference. Attachments:

SANDY SPRINGS, GA - Total Sports Coverage was on the scene throughout the minor league football ranks this weekend in the Gridiron Developmental Football League (GDFL)
The Minor League Football Game of the Week was in the GDFL between the Atlanta Aggression and Atlanta Chiefs. The Chiefs, in their second year of existence, were going up against a reborn Atlanta Aggression team that has won two Southern Football League (SFL) championships in the early part of the last decade.
After a scoreless first half the Atlanta Chiefs would use special teams and defense to break the ice and the game open in the 3rd quarter. Punter Dwayane Simon Jr boomed a 42-yard coffin corner punt that nailed the Aggression on their own 1 yardline. On the very next play, Aggression QB Brandon Butler fumbled in the end zone and Chief Rick Sylva recovered for the first points of the game and season giving the Chiefs a 7-0 lead. On their next offensive possession Chief RB Demarcus Phillips broke a 44-yard TD run to push the margin to 13-0 as the extra-point was blocked.
The Aggression would start their next possession on the Chiefs 32 yard line after an unsportsmanlike penalty and good kickoff return from Andre Bailey. The Aggression would move 26-yards before Butler pass was intercepted at the goal line and returned 54 yards to set the Chiefs up. Steven Williams, whose passing numbers were 8-15 for 204yds 2TD 1INT, found his favorite target Jeremy Parham for a 44-yard TD pass with a successful two-point conversion to give the Chiefs a 21-0 lead and all of the momentum.
The Aggression would never seriously threaten again in the contest while Steven Williams tossed a side-armed 75-yard TD pass to Kendrick Ings for the final margin of 28-0. Teremiah King, Jovan Anthony, Jake Williamson, Samuel Bowman and Jernell Jordan lead a Chiefs defense that only allowed 27 rushing yards to the Aggression who used several backs but Brandon Butler was 12-33 184yds through the air with 1INT. Demarcus Watts was the leading Aggression receiver with 3 catches for 97 yards. Both teams will have much to improve on in practice next week as the Chiefs were hit with 10 penalties for 75 yards while the Aggression had 8 penalties for 40 yards, all which were called by a very solid crew that didn't have any questionable calls.
The Henry County Horseman is another team in their first year of the GDFL and is a founding member of the American Football Group with the Atlanta Chiefs, Atlanta Aggression and Georgia Jets. They defeated the Atlanta Lions 41-6.
Other GDFL scores from Week 1... Georgia Crush 28 West Georgia Renegades 0; South Georgia Seminoles 38 Peach State Rattlers 18; Florida Falcons 38 Florida Rhinos 0; CSRA Cobras 14 East Georgia Rebels 8, Jefferson County Warriors 66 Emerald Coast Scorpions 0; Georgia Jets: Idle
