ATLANTA, GA - The GDFL wasted little time naming the Week 9 Game of the week. With a little influence from the eventual participates the No.2 Oklahoma Thunder will face the No. 17 Dallas Diesel this weekend, even before the latest rankings have been released.
The Thunder (of Oklahoma so as not to confuse you with the Derby City Thunder who also compete in the Impact Conference) are coming off a rather modest 26-12 victory over the AFL's top dog in the Arkansas Sabers while the Diesel rebounded from their Week 7 loss with a 14-0 shutout of crosstown foe the DFW Heat.
The two franchises have not met on the gridiron since 2009 so it's a for gone conclusion that the emotions will be high and the hitting will be fierce. For the Diesel they are lead by a talented crop of athletes from Canoya Jefferson, Michael Larry, Tony Fair and Tywon Young. For the Thunder they have been laying the boom, no pun intended, to their opponents in 2011 posting wins of 71-0 and 80-0 enroute to a 5-0 start. Their 26 points against the Sabers this weekend was their lowest scoring output of the season. The Diesel could provide the Thunder with their stiffest challenge to date as many throughout the league and nation have questioned the strength of their schedule/division. Both teams are sitting atop their respective divisions, the Thunder in the Midwest North and the Diesel in the Midwest South so division status will not be affected but confidence heading down the regular season stretch and into the playoffs is on the line, especially when you defeat a quality opponent.
More information the GDFL Week 9 Game of the Week will be posted this week.
