ATLANTA, GA - The GDFL All Star game participants are set. The game will be held in Asheville, NC as a part of Championship weekend. The championship game will be held Saturday Sept. 24th and the All Star Game Sunday Sept. 25. Also the Blue Ridge Mountain Bowl will be held on tis weekend as well in Asheville, NC.
Stats, team records, ownership accountability, player character, player morale and fan support are all factors that could, key word COULD, be used to select an All Star. Any of those could be used to give one player an edge over another if they are both solid performers. That's all it takes in a league filled with some 3840 estimated players with only 596 nominations. Yes 596 to fill 110 spots.

So there you have it the 110 2011 GDFL All Stars. Now let's break them down...
The 2010 champion and currently No.1 ranked Carolina Warriors have 4 selections. There were two other teams (Georgia Jets and Beaufort Hornets) in the Xtreme Conference with 4 selections. There were a total of 26 Xtreme Conference teams represented compared to only 19 from the Impact Conference.
In the Impact the Texas Exclusive ran supreme with 6 selections. Each team were allotted 6 nominations. The Texas Exclusive also were awarded a Presidential Selection with quarterback Roland White. Georgia Jet quarterback Detronn Harris was the Presidential Selection out of the Xtreme Conference. So what is the Presidential selection. Selection made directly by the GDFL President of players that were not nominated. Elsewhere in the Impact Conference behind the Texas Exclusive there were four teams with 4 selections. Those four squads were the 2010 Runner Up Kentucky Wolverines, the silent but violent Pike County(MS) Iron Horse, Columbus Gladiators and Mississippi Raiders.
So looking at the current Top 25 there were four teams not represented. The No.9 Chambersburg Cardinals, No.11 Buckeye Bearcats, No.15 Jefferson County (GA) Warriors and No. 24 St. Louis Bulldogs were not represented. So what does that mean that there is not one but four current top 25 teams not represented. Well who knows but what it says about the teams is that they may feel their entire team is all star caliber, but we'll never know. These teams not being represented were a shock, however all GDFL teams/organizations were given a deadline to submit their nominees so all we can see at Total Sports Coverage is that no nominees were submitted by those teams.
With that it leads us the snubs. As with any All Star selection there will be "snubs", just the nature of the beast". We'll breakdown a few snubs on the GDFL Game Center this Sunday night at 10pm EST/9pm CST. Also something that comes with the territory of All Star selections is the actual selection process itself. Who made the selections, what "standard" was used etc etc. In the end it's just a conversation and argument piece, one that we love here at Total Sports Coverage and we'll also breakdown further on the GDFL game Center on Sunday night, which is heard exclusively right here on Total Sports Coverage.
All in all the all stars are what they are and they were selected. Total Sports Coverage has also learned that more selections could come down the pike before the actual game so it will be interesting to see who these selections are. Bottom line is the All Star game will be the final GDFL game of the season so the gentlemen selected will be not only representing themselves and their team but sending a message of the level of competition in the GDFL in 2011, a building block to 2012. Total Sports Coverage will be on the scene will you? We'll continue to break down the All Stars in depth leading up to the game.
Congratulations to all of the All Star selections, pat yourself on the back but while you do that, continue to focus on the goals your team set during the preseason in May. Football is the ultimate team game and every All Star should thank their teammates and every snub should continue to push for their team.
