ATLANTA, GA - The Week 10 game of the week has been released. The No.3 Indianapolis Tornados will put their undefeated record on the line against another undefeated team just south down I-65 in the No.10 Derby City Thunder. Derby City entered the Top 10 for the first time this season and will have a shot right out of the gate to showcase their worth.

The Thunder come in led by Impact Conference All Star quarterback Eric Miles. Miles has had targets like Antonio Eddins and Jerome Walton to throw to all season on his way to tossing 21TDs and rushing for 7TD. Reshun Carter is carrying the rock out of the backfield with a solid average per strike [carry]. Derby City isn't undfeated without the play of a stout defense. Mike Sowell, Cleavon Pickett and Robert Martin anchor a defense that has only allowed opponents 58 points through 7 games. For Thunder Owner Howard Gant the move to the GDFL this season "...was all about the level of competition and the relationship with GDFL President Charles Thompson who has a great concept for the GDFL", Gant stated. That test of competition will be on display this weekend.

North up I-65 the No.3 Tornados are all about striving for another championship. The program hasn't seen a league championship since 2008 and with a small number of the core group of guys remaining, the Tornados are looking for their leadership to carry the them along with mentoring the youth on what it takes to be a champion. Even this Tornado possesses a "thunder and lightning" aspect. In the backfield Jimi Agnew and Tony West cause defenses pop up storms on a routine basis. The Offensive Line is rounding into form just in time for the stretch. Across the line the Tornados average 6'3 300 and have a veteran center leading them.

Buckeye Bearcats beating down opponents

Green, Ohio —Are you ready for some football? One Minor League Football team has been doing major things on the scene and have impressed with their camaraderie and skill. Who am I talking about you ask? The Buckeye Bearcats, a semi-pro team in the GDFL (Gridiron Developmental Football League) used a suffocating defense and a quick-strike offense to shut out the Buckeye Splash 48-0 last Saturday.

The Bearcats in their first season are undefeated and have imposed their will by "bearing down" on various teams they've played in the GDFL.

Bearcats owner and coach Ken Mason discussed how the Bearcats got started and on how they dominated the league this year.

"The team was going to fold under the leadership of the old owners, and one of the other coaches and myself took it over and we have ourselves a new team," he said.

The Bearcats play their home games at Ariss Park in Green, and have given their fans and families a lot to cheer about in their first season under Mason and the new ownership.

The Bearcats, formerly the Akron Silverhawks, have been stingy on defense and opportunistic on offense.

"We have a defense that only gives up about one or two touchdowns a game, and they create lots of opportunities for our offense, which is explosive and puts points on the board."

And they certainly put a lot of points on the board against the Buckeye Splash on Saturday. The Bearcats got off to a slow start, but they trapped the Splash in the endzone for a pair of safety's and the offense took it from there, putting a goose egg up on the board for the coaches who have pushed them all season to get better in each and every game.

The Bearcats were originally supposed to play the Columbus Gladiators for the league championship, They didn't end up playing them, so the Splash, who are based out of Canton, came up during their bye week to play at Ariss Park.

Much like the rest of their games this season, Mason said that their defense has set up their offense.

"We've been stingy all year, keeping our opponents out of the endzone, and we've done a good job keeping our team in games with our D."

Players that have been instrumental in the Bearcats winning games on the defensive side of the ball include safety Josh Winland, defensive end Albert Pokorny, and linebacker Ryan Moore.

"On offense, running back Justin James is one of those backs that pounds you all game long, and tight end Kyle Resanovich is our best hands guy," Mason says.

This collection of players all has experience at the NCAA and semi-pro level and has used that skill and experience to their advantage.

"We have guys on the roster from Malone, Walsh, Akron, Mt. Union, and other schools across the state and the country," said owner/coach Ken Mason.

"It doesn't surprise me at all about the success they've had this season."

"They are a team in every sense of the word, they play together, they always communicate with each other on the field, and even when the game is over, they hang out together, so they jell together and you can see it when we play," Mason explained.

One of the players who also is pleased with the success of the Bearcats is DE/FB Noah Mayberry.

"We've had some success this year, even though we had a rough start to the year," he said.

"We put the team together with chewing gum, and we're undefeated in our first season, which is good."

They will play one more divisional game and if they win that, they have the potential to keep playing some out-of state games and continue their hot streak.

The 38-year old Mayberry said Ohio is a great football state and he wants create a buzz to get more people to know about the Bearcats.

"We want to put a good product out on the field, get people to come out to the games." he said. "Not too many people know about us, we are trying to put a website together, we already have a Facebook page, so if we keep winning games and interacting with our fans and football fans in general, we should be in good shape."

If the Bearcats keep blowing out opponents, they won't have any problems with people knowing who they are.
