ATLANTA, GA - We begin at the top as the 2010 GDFL defending GDFL Champion Carolina Warriors suffered their first defeat of the season and in their GDFL history falling 14-7 to the Capital City Kings 14-7. The win brings the Kings to .500 at 3-3 and the loss, a big one for the Warriors who had held down the number 1 spot since the preseason, are now 6-1.

The No.2 Oklahoma Thunder had no and we mean NO MERCY on the Kansas Diamondbacks in their 96-6 win, yes 96-6. The 90-point win is the largest in GDFL history. (were checking to see if it's the largest in recorded FOOTBALL HISTORY not involving any version of Madden)

In the Game of the Week the No.3 Indianapolis Tornados made life difficult for their visitors from down I-65 in the Derby City Thunder. The Tornados jumped on the Thunder early and took a 20-0 lead in to the locker room at half time on a Tony West 9yd TD run. In the second the Tornados kept bringing it pushing their lead to 27-0 before the Thunder found the endzone on a Maurice Gardner TD run and a 27-6 lead. The Tornados took that lead into the fourth quarter and added a field goal for the final 30-6 margin and the win.

No.4 Kentucky Wolverines avoided and upset bid from the No.13 Clarksville Wolfpack winning 30-13.

The upsets keep coming as yet another Top 10 fell in the No. 7 Carolina Bulldogs. The Carolina Falcons gave themselves a shot in arm as far as the playoff race is concerned in the X treme Conference improving to 5-3 will handing the Carolina Bulldogs their first lost of the season. The Bulldogs have a date with division foe the Asheville Grizzlies to closeout the regular season.

Want more upsets? The Low Country Assassins picked up their second win on the season with a TD pass with 1:47 left in the game for a 20-14 win over the No.16 Palmetto Havoc. The Havoc had been playing with fire the past few games winning by one poin to the Beaufort Hornets and by 2 points against the South Carolina Commanders. Clinging to again a one-point lead at 14-13 the Havoc's luck ran out.

The Orange Mound rivalry is heated you hear, so heated that sometimes the rules are forgotten. The Tennessee Hurricanes defeated the Memphis Blast 8-6 in overtime. The Blast were backed up deep in their own territory and had to punt. The Blast punter mishandled a botch snap and after a failed attempt at scooping it up kicked the ball out through the back of the end zone giving the Hurricanes the 8-6 OT win. How many times has a football game ended like that?

Lancaster Lighting Big win against the DC Explosion last night, 20-18! Was another Shocker in the GDFL in terrible weather but another great game.

FOOTBALL: Chambersburg Cardinals overwhelm Waynesboro Tigers, 76-0

Chambersburg,Pa-You could think of a lot of ways a football team could earn respect from another team.

But even if you took a full day to make up a lengthy list, you'd never come up with this one.

The Chambersburg Cardinals defeated the Waynesboro Tigers 76-0 on Saturday night in a non-league minor league football game.

That wasn't the story.

The Cardinals needed a team to play after the Bergen Hawks folded and several other possibilities fell through. The Tigers agreed to be that team, even though they aren't close to the same level of talent as Chambersburg.

That in itself would have been a nice gesture.

Now factor this in: Waynesboro showed up even though it had already played a game Saturday, a 54-0 loss to the Baltimore Hurricanes in a Mid-Atlantic Football League game.

On a rainy and ridiculously humid night at Trojan Stadium, it was hard to tell what was oozing out of the players' pores more, sweat or respect.

Chambersburg back Craig Heyward Jr., who scored three touchdowns, said, "You have to give them all kinds of respect for them to do this. That's hard -- it's like doing two-a-days."

"It took a lot of guts and courage for them to play two games," said Cardinals defensive lineman Tappah Dinnall, who fell on a fumble he caused on a sack for his team's second score.

"They earned all the respect in the world," Chambersburg coach Chad Fauson said. "I'm not sure if our guys would have done that."

130-0 in the two games (the Baltimore Hurricanes won 54-0 in the afternoon game) makes it even more of a feat mentally.

Waynesboro coach Chris Hughes said, "I have the utmost respect for our team. They didn't fold. They played with their hearts. This is almost unheard of ... we're like a family and we didn't give up."

Although the Tigers tried, there wasn't much they could do to stop the Cardinals from scoring, no matter which side of the ball they were on.

Chambersburg's defense scored (Dinnall's fumble recovery). The punt return team scored twice, once on James Rockymore's block and subsequent 11-yard return, and again when Ivan Randolph ran back a punt 61 yards.

They scored through the air. Quarterback Josh Finafrock passed for three touchdowns, all to backs. Keon Lattimore took a swing pass 57 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, and later scored on a 67-yard pass-run play. Heyward added a TD catch after Finafrock had dropped the ball, picked it up and found Heyward from 19 yards out.

And they scored on the ground. Heyward had runs of 1 and 5 yards, Dustin Mowen (5 carries, 120 yards) ran it in from 35 and 41 yards out, and wide receiver Jerell Jones took a reverse 44 yards to the end zone.

Heyward said, "It was a different atmosphere. We just had to take care of business and tune up on some things we needed to work on."

Meanwhile, Chambersburg's defense stifled the Waynesboro attack. The Tigers totaled just 8 yards from scrimmage, although they did manage five first downs.

J.R. Marshall and Darnell Christian picked off passes, and Marshall would have scored on his pick had the Cardinals not committed a personal foul on the runback.

"It was a strange game to coach," Fauson said. "We wanted to get the work in, but we had lots of guys playing more than usual and in different positions."

Example: Both defensive lineman Jonathan Pretlow and center Adam Hoffman got to carry the ball. Hoffman, who gained 21 yards on his "sprint," was heard calling to the fans, "I think No. 62 might be an athlete."

The Tigers had no regrets.

Waynesboro quarterback Josh Leininger said, "We never hesitated. We wanted to come play. We have a lot of friends on their team and we wanted to come play some hardball. They needed a game, so why not play in a beautiful stadium like this?"

Fauson said, "It's commendable what Waynesboro did, and I told them that. And I think it will pay off for them -- before today I don't think that many people knew they existed."
