ATLANTA, GA - The Gridiron Developmental Football League regular season came to a close with a handful of games schedule during the make-up week.
We begin in Monticello, FL the site of the No.6 South Georgia 'Noles traveling to the Jefferson County Warriors in a game that would decide the Southeastern Division winner. The 'Noles got off to a rough start when quarterback Marcus Brooks covered up a high snap in the end zone giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead. The 'Noles and Brooks would bounce back when Brooks found Dontarrus Thomas for a 40-yard touchdown pass giving the 'Noles a 7-2 lead. Chad Spencer added a 20-yard field for a 'Noles 10-2 lead late in the third quarter. Jefferson County added a touchdown with a failed two-point conversion for a 10-8 game and that's how it would end. The South Georgia 'Noles win the Southeastern Division and will host a first-round playoff game.
The No.12 Georgia Jets and Atlanta Chiefs renewed their young but intense rivalry with the Chiefs hosting the Jets for the first time in the four-game rivalry. You never know what to expect in this game and tonight was no different. Jets quarterback Detronn Harris put his flu-like symptoms aside to lead the Jets on an 8-play 70-yard drive midway through the third quarter with Smiley Jones finishing the drive with a 1-yard touchdown for the only points of the game and a 7-0 Jets win. The Jets eliminated the Chiefs fro m the playoffs and ended their first two seasons of operation with 7-0 defeats. Detronn Harris finished the season with 1,000+ yards passing for the second season in a row although he did not throw a touchdown in a game for only the second time this season in 8 played games.
